In early 2008, the Anarchist Mountain Community Society was created.
This internet space is designed to allow members of the AMCS to interact with each other in a non-intrusive way. For instance, if you want to post a question about weed control, or the availability of a plumber, or ask a question about a BBQ party ..... you can do that on this blog space. Only folks that sign in will read the infomation and perhaps respond. There will be no SPAM emails to bug people that way.
The Community Society has had a very successful start in 2008, with 31 families now participating as members. That's not bad when you consider that there are less than 100 homes from Osoyoos to Anarchist Summit.
We had an excellent tree planting project occur in May, where just under 4,000 new ponderosa pine trees were planted by 28 neighbours on one Saturday morning. We are also in the process of GPS mapping trails and hope to publish a Trail Map some time later this summer. (Anyone willing to GPS a trail please contact Mark McKenney).
A committee of members has just completed a Stewardship Agreement with Regal Ridge, that recognizes the role of the Community Society in advising on how the nearly 2,300 acres of conservation lands will be managed in the future. We will be meeting as a Board of Directors, on July 16th and intend to send out details of the Stewardship Agreement following that Board meeting.
Finally, we have approval from the Board of Directors to create a Community Society website and hope to have that operational in a few months. This blog space is the first step in that "internet" direction. We will be asking people what they would like to have included on that website in the near future. Keeping people informed with what is happening in the Community will be a key feature of the website.
We are also considering a much more major tree planting project for 2009 & 2010 (perhaps as many as 40,000 trees) – which would be accomplished in partnership with Regal Ridge, K & C Nurseries and Zanzibar Tree Planting Inc. – if that comes together it will put a lot more green trees in the ground all over the mountain, especially in burned and cut-over areas.
Welcome to the Anarchist Mountain Community Society – working towards making your community the best place to live anywhere! Please let your neighbours hear frmo you through this blog webspace.
